How to run it

  1. 1Run it in February (October in the UK) in a team meeting, classroom or lunch-and-learn.
  2. 2Everyone answers on their phone. After each reveal, read the note: it carries the context that makes the answer matter.
  3. 3Each round ends with an open question. Read the answers aloud and give the room a few minutes to talk.
  4. 4Invite people to share a book, film or person they'd recommend. The summary keeps the list.

Questions people ask

What are good Black History Month trivia questions?
Questions with a story worth telling: who founded the observance, why February, and pioneers such as Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, Mae Jemison and Katherine Johnson. The context matters as much as the answer.
Why is Black History Month in February?
Carter G. Woodson chose a week in February in 1926 because it included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. It became a month-long observance in 1976.
How do you run Black History Month trivia at work?
Keep it respectful and focused on learning: reveal each answer with its context, pause for discussion after each round, and invite people to recommend books, films and people.
