Wheel spinner and random name picker

Paste a list of names, spin, and let the wheel decide. Every name has exactly the same chance, and the winner can leave the wheel for the next spin.

Short answer

Type or paste up to 100 names, one per line, and press Spin. The winner is drawn with your browser's cryptographic random generator, so every name has the same chance; the wheel then turns to land on it. Remove the winner for the next spin, or undo. Free, with no sign-up.

Or click the wheel. Every name has the same chance.

What people spin it for

Fair picks, in front of everyone.

  • Who goes first

Stand-ups, retros and show-and-tells: spin for the first speaker and remove each one as they finish.

  • Calling on students

A random name picker is fairer than hands up, and the class can see it's fair. Remove names as they answer.

  • Raffles and giveaways

Paste the entries, spin once, and show the wheel on screen so everyone sees the draw.

  • Small decisions

Lunch spots, team names, the next game. Put the options on the wheel and stop debating.

Fair by design

The draw happens before the wheel moves.

Many wheels decide the winner by where a random spin happens to stop, which depends on animation timing and rounding. This one draws the winner first, with the same kind of random number generator browsers use for encryption, then turns the wheel to land on it.

The draw uses rejection sampling, so a list of 7 or 13 names is exactly as fair as a list of 8. If you remove winners as you go, each spin is a fresh, equal draw among the names that are left.

Run it live

Everyone joins on their phone.

Picking one person to speak is a start. In an Agendiq meeting, people join from their phones with a short code and everyone answers at once: a check-in, a vote, a quiz, with the answers on the shared screen.

  • Join by code or QR, no app and no account
  • Check-ins, votes, ideas and quizzes from every phone
  • A timer for each agenda item keeps it moving
  • Free plan: up to 50 people on their phones

Wheel spinner questions

How does the wheel spinner pick a winner?

When you press Spin, the winner is drawn first with your browser's cryptographic random number generator (the Web Crypto API). The wheel then turns several times and slows down to stop on that name. The animation is for show; the draw is already fair.

Is the random name picker really random?

Yes. Every name has exactly the same chance on every spin. The pick uses rejection sampling, which removes the small bias that simpler methods have, and nothing about the order of the list or the wheel's last position changes the odds.

How many names can I put on the wheel?

Up to 100. Type them one per line or paste a list from a spreadsheet; a single line separated by commas works too. Duplicate names are allowed, so you can give someone two chances on purpose.

Can I remove a name after it's picked?

Yes. After each spin, press Remove to take the winner off the wheel for the next spin. Changed your mind? Undo puts them back.

Does it save my list?

Yes, in your own browser, so the names are there next time you open the page on the same device. Nothing is sent to Agendiq or anyone else.

Can I use it on a projector or in a video call?

Yes. The wheel scales to any screen. Share your screen or put it on the projector, and if anyone prefers less motion, their device shows the result straight away.
