How to run it

  1. 1Fix the categories, nominees and winners a week ahead, and fill the award slides. Duplicate the three award slides for each extra award.
  2. 2Write the host's lines in the slide notes. They're your awards ceremony script.
  3. 3Guests scan in at the door. The word cloud warms the room up while people settle.
  4. 4Keep each award to about five minutes and each thank-you to one minute.
  5. 5Rename the people's choice options to the nominees, run the vote live and announce the winner straight away.

Questions people ask

How do you run an award ceremony?
Fix categories and winners in advance, write a short host script, keep each award to about five minutes and thank-yous to one minute, and finish on time. A live audience vote adds a moment everyone takes part in.
What should an award ceremony script include?
A welcome, a short look back at the year, and for each award: what it recognizes, the nominees, the winner and a handover line. Then thanks and a close.
How long should an awards night be?
Keep the program itself to about 60 to 90 minutes. Dinner or drinks can run around it, but long programs lose the room.
