Customer advisory board

Your input, our roadmap, today's priorities

Title

In short

A customer advisory board (CAB) is a small group of customers who meet regularly to advise a company on its direction and roadmap. This kit plans a five-hour CAB day: 'you said, we did', a roadmap deck, a feedback board, a live vote to prioritize themes, breakouts and a thank-you email.

How to run it

  1. 1Invite eight to fifteen customers who are senior enough to speak for their teams and different enough to disagree.
  2. 2Open with 'you said, we did' from last time, including what you didn't do and why.
  3. 3Let customers talk first in the roundtable. Product people listen and take notes.
  4. 4Show roadmap themes, collect feedback on the board, then vote on the themes on phones.
  5. 5Report back on what you did with their input before the next meeting. That's what keeps a CAB alive.

Questions people ask

What happens at a customer advisory board meeting?
Members share what's changing in their world, see an early view of the roadmap, give feedback and help prioritize. The company reports back on what it did with the last round of input.
Who should be on a customer advisory board?
Senior people from a mix of customers who represent where you want to go, are willing to give honest feedback and can speak for their teams. Eight to fifteen keeps the conversation real.
How often should a customer advisory board meet?
Many meet once or twice a year in person, with shorter virtual sessions in between. What matters most is reporting back between meetings.
