[Year] marketing plan

Goals, audiences, channels, budget, calendar and how we'll measure it

Title

In short

A marketing plan sets out your goals, audiences, channels, budget, calendar and how you'll measure success. This 14-slide template turns it into a presentation: leadership ranks the channels on their phones before you show the budget, then a risk poll and confidence scale test the plan before launch.

How to run it

  1. 1Fill in your goals and audiences first; the channels, budget and calendar should follow from them, not the other way round.
  2. 2Replace every sample number with your numbers before you present. The notes mark each one.
  3. 3Have leadership and sales rank the channels on their phones before you show your budget split. Differences are worth discussing.
  4. 4End with the confidence scale. If the room is below 7, ask what's missing and fix the plan before you launch.

Questions people ask

What should a marketing plan include?
Where you are now, goals with numbers and dates, target audiences, the channels you'll use, a budget, a calendar of campaigns and the KPIs you'll report on.
How do you present a marketing plan?
Start with the customer and the goals, then show how channels, budget and calendar serve them. Ask stakeholders to rank channels and rate their confidence, so you hear objections before launch.
What's the difference between a marketing plan and a marketing strategy?
The strategy decides who you're for and why they should choose you. The plan turns that into goals, channels, budget, timing and measures.
