[Year] sales plan

Targets, territories, plays and what the team needs to win

Title

In short

A sales plan sets the revenue target and how the team will reach it: territories, segments, plays, hiring and enablement. This 14-slide presentation turns the plan into a kickoff, with a target guess, a ranking of the plays and an achievability scale the team answers anonymously on their phones.

How to run it

  1. 1Replace every sample number with your numbers. The notes flag each one.
  2. 2Open the target reveal with the guess slide. It's a fun start at a kickoff and shows how far expectations are from the plan.
  3. 3Let the team rank the plays before you confirm which one gets resourced first. Reps often know which play will land.
  4. 4Close with the achievability scale and follow up one-to-one with anyone who rates it low.

Questions people ask

What should a sales plan include?
Last year's results, the target and how it breaks down by quarter, territories and segments, the plays you'll run, team capacity and hiring, enablement, and milestones for reviewing progress.
How do you present a sales plan to the team?
Show where the target comes from, how it splits by territory and quarter, and which plays will reach it. Ask the team to rank the plays and rate how achievable it feels, then follow up on low scores.
What's the difference between a sales plan and a sales strategy?
The strategy decides which markets and customers to win and how you'll be different. The plan turns that into targets, territories, plays, people and dates.
