In short

A workshop agenda is the facilitator's timed plan for a working session that produces ideas and decisions. This three-and-a-half-hour template moves from check-in and context to a capture board for ideas, timed breakouts, report-backs, a vote to converge and an action plan, with energizers where attention usually drops.

What's inside

By the end of this meeting, the group has generated ideas, chosen the ones to pursue and agreed first steps with owners and dates. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Agree the workshop's three outcomes with the sponsor before planning anything else.
  2. 2Send a short pre-read so the context block can stay short.
  3. 3Keep the timer visible during breakouts and give warnings at ten and two minutes.
  4. 4Use the capture board and the vote so every voice counts, not just the confident ones.
  5. 5Finish with owners, first steps and dates; the summary becomes the workshop report.

Questions people ask

How do you plan a workshop agenda?
Start from the outcomes, then alternate diverging (generating ideas) and converging (choosing). Add breaks every 90 minutes or so, energizers after lunch or breaks, and end with owners and next steps.
What makes good workshop facilitation?
Clear outcomes, visible timing, silent writing before discussion so every voice is heard, small groups for depth, and a facilitator who stays neutral on the content.
Can I use this for a design thinking workshop?
Yes. Use the context block for empathy research, the capture board for ideation and the breakouts for quick prototypes, then vote on which prototype to test.
