In short

A mind map puts one topic in the center and branches ideas out from it, so a group can explore a subject visually. This template gives you a live board with the topic in the middle and six branches (who, what, why, how, where and when, what if), ideas from everyone's phone, grouping into sub-branches and dot voting.

What's inside

The agenda

By the end of this meeting, we've explored the topic from six angles and chosen the branches worth taking further.

How to run it

  1. 1Add the topic as a card and drag it into the middle so everyone sees it.
  2. 2Let people add ideas to any branch from their phones; nudge empty branches.
  3. 3Group ideas inside each branch and name the groups to form sub-branches.
  4. 4Dot-vote the ideas worth exploring and give each one an owner. In a classroom, the class can own them together.

Questions people ask

What is a mind map?
A diagram that starts with one central idea and branches out into related ideas, then sub-ideas. It's used for brainstorming, planning, note-taking and studying.
What's the difference between a mind map and a concept map?
A mind map radiates from one central topic. A concept map links many concepts to each other with labeled relationships ('causes', 'is part of'), so it shows how ideas connect rather than branch.
How do you make a mind map with a group?
Agree the central topic, give everyone a few minutes to add ideas to the main branches, then group and name related ideas as sub-branches. Doing it live from phones means everyone contributes, not just the person holding the pen.
