How to run it

  1. 1Recruit speakers six weeks ahead. Ask for 12 to 15 minutes, a prop or two and the honest story of their path.
  2. 2Fill in the speaker schedule slide and send each speaker their room, time and the question ideas slide in advance.
  3. 3Open each session with the word cloud, then show the question ideas before the speaker starts.
  4. 4Students send questions from their phones during the talk. The speaker picks from the screen.
  5. 5Send each speaker the thank-you email with their students' questions and what they learned.

Questions people ask

How do you organize a career day?
Recruit a mix of speakers six weeks ahead, give each a room and a time, rotate classes through, and prepare students with question ideas. Send thank-you notes the same week.
What should a career day presentation include?
A day in the life, how the speaker got there (detours included), the best and hardest parts, one or two props, and plenty of time for questions. Twelve to fifteen minutes of talking is enough.
What questions should students ask at career day?
What does a normal day look like? What did you study? What's the hardest part? What surprised you? What would you tell yourself at my age?
