Why it works

Built so the tier 2 daily management meeting ends on time, with everyone in it.

  • Updates stay short

6 minutes of updates with a visible clock. In a video call the speaker is spotlighted and the room is muted, so nobody talks over them.

  • Discussion with a clock

8 minutes of open floor with a countdown everyone can see, and a talk-balance meter so the loudest voice doesn't take all of it.

  • A vote the whole room sees

One tap each on a phone, live bars on the screen. A tick shows who has voted, never what they chose.

  • It ends in a decision

Capture the decision and its owner with one click while it's said. It lands in the summary, word for word.

How to run it

  1. 1Meet at the same time every day for about 30 minutes, after the Tier 1 meetings it supports.
  2. 2Start with results against expectations, then ask why the area deviated from plan.
  3. 3For each escalated issue, decide whether to contain it now or assign root-cause analysis.
  4. 4Coach rather than hand out solutions, and keep blame out of the room.
  5. 5Close with specific action items and owners, and follow them up the next day.

Questions about the tier 2 daily management meeting

How long is a Tier 2 meeting?
Lean Institute Brasil describes about 30 minutes at the same time every day; a weaker source gives 20–30 minutes for Tier 2 and 30–45 minutes weekly or biweekly for Tier 3.
What is the difference between Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3?
Tier 1 is the team's start-of-shift stand-up. Tier 2 handles escalations from Tier 1 with supervisors and support functions, and Tier 3 handles escalations from Tier 2 at plant or operations level.
What makes tiered meetings fail?
Superficial answers without root cause, leaders handing out solutions instead of coaching, blame, and vague action items with no follow-up.
