How to run it

  1. 1Press Present. Students vote on tablets or Chromebooks by scanning the QR code, or you tap the class's show of hands into one device.
  2. 2Read each question aloud, give 10 seconds to vote, then show the split.
  3. 3Ask one student from each side to explain why. Model a sentence frame: I'd rather… because…
  4. 4Use three or four questions as a brain break, or the whole set for a rainy-day recess.

Questions people ask

What are good would you rather questions for elementary students?
Ones about animals, superpowers, places and school days: fly or be invisible, a pet dragon or a unicorn, art all day or gym all day. Keep them playful and avoid anything scary or about how people look.
How do I use would you rather in the classroom?
As a morning meeting activity or a brain break. Students vote, see the class split, then explain their choice with a sentence frame, which builds speaking and reasoning skills.
Do these work for teens?
The last four questions are written for grades 6 and up. For high school, add questions about future plans, technology and hypothetical choices that need a reason.
