In short

A military promotion ceremony marks an advance in rank with the orders read aloud, the oath for officers and new rank pinned on by family. A retirement ceremony adds awards, the certificate and a flag. This 50-minute run sheet covers both, with timers and narrator cues for each segment.

What's inside

By the end of this meeting, the honoree is promoted or retired with the orders read, the family recognized and every guest following along. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Delete the promotion or retirement block you don't need and adjust the target time.
  2. 2Write the narrator's lines into the notes and give the narrator the agenda on a tablet so the next cue is always visible.
  3. 3Get the orders, award citation and certificates signed and in a folder in running order before the day.
  4. 4Rehearse with the official party and family members who pin rank or receive certificates.
  5. 5Print a one-page program with the sequence of events and the honoree's biography.
