What's inside

By the end of this meeting, every officer knows their assignment, the threats and trends for this shift and one training point. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Hold roll call at the same time and place every shift and start on time; the timers keep it to 15 minutes.
  2. 2Keep BOLO and wanted-person details in CAD or your records system and read them aloud; use the agenda for the order and the timing.
  3. 3Rotate the training minute through policy, case law and tactics, and change the question in the vote each shift.
  4. 4Close with one clear priority for the shift so officers leave knowing what matters most.

Questions people ask

What is covered at police roll call?
Attendance and assignments, what happened on the last shift, BOLOs and wanted persons, officer-safety information, crime trends and directed patrols, and a short piece of training.
How long should a police shift briefing be?
Usually 10 to 15 minutes. Longer briefings delay officers getting to calls.
What is roll call training?
A few minutes of training built into roll call, such as a policy review, a recent court decision or a tactic, repeated across shifts so every officer hears it.
