Inclusion in everyday work

How we make sure everyone can contribute, be heard and do their best work here

Title

In short

Diversity training helps a team understand how bias and everyday habits affect who gets heard and who gets ahead, and what to do about it. This 45-minute deck is discussion-led: anonymous polls, an open question and a final vote on one inclusive habit the team commits to and reviews after 30 days.

What's inside

  1. 1Inclusion in everyday work
  2. 2Ground rules: assume good intent, speak from your own experience, keep personal stories in the room, and it's always fine to pass.
  3. 3Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.
  4. 4Four words, plainly
  5. 5How often do your ideas get a fair hearing in team meetings? live
  6. 6Where bias shows up at work
  7. 7Bias is a shortcut every brain takes. The goal isn't guilt. It's habits that catch the shortcut before it makes the decision for us.
  8. 8Inclusive meeting habits
  9. 9A colleague's idea is ignored. Ten minutes later someone else says it and gets the credit. What would you most likely do?Nothing. It happens. · Say "That builds on Priya's point" · Mention it to Priya afterwards · Raise it with the manager live
  10. 10Small actions that add up
  11. 11What's one thing that would make this team more inclusive? live
  12. 12Which commitment should our team start with?Round-robin input in meetings · Rotate note-taking and admin · Agendas a day ahead · Vary social event times · Credit ideas by name live
  13. 13Making it stick
  14. 14Inclusion is a habit, not a training

How to run it

  1. 1Open with the ground rules and say clearly that every poll and open answer appears on screen without names.
  2. 2Keep it a conversation, not a lecture. After each poll, ask what surprised people about the split before you add anything.
  3. 3Read the open answers aloud as they come in, without judging them. Thank people for honesty, especially the uncomfortable answers.
  4. 4End by voting on one team commitment, then put the follow-up date in the calendar before people leave. Run the fairness scale again then.

Questions people ask

What should DEI training include?
Shared definitions, how bias shows up at work, specific inclusive habits for meetings and everyday work, real scenarios to discuss, and a commitment the team will check on later.
How do you make diversity training effective?
Keep it discussion-led, use anonymous input so people answer honestly, and tie it to one or two team habits you review after a month. One-off lectures tend to fade.
What is cultural awareness training?
Training that helps people notice how culture shapes communication, expectations and working styles, so colleagues from different backgrounds work together with fewer misunderstandings.
