What's inside

By the end of this meeting, the chapter has heard its officers, voted on its motions and left knowing the week's calendar and who owns what. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1The president and secretary set the agenda a day before and ask officers for written reports.
  2. 2Keep ritual parts as time slots only, and run them from your organization's materials.
  3. 3Hold officers to two minutes each so the chapter has time for business and shout-outs.
  4. 4Vote on motions by phone so results are counted fast. Use your required ballot method for membership decisions.
  5. 5Send the summary to members who missed chapter, with the calendar and action items.

Questions people ask

What happens at a sorority chapter meeting?
An opening ritual, roll call, minutes, officer and committee reports, old and new business with votes, good of the order and a closing ritual. Most chapters meet weekly.
What is good of the order?
A time near the end of a meeting for general comments that aren't business: shout-outs, concerns and ideas. No motions are made during it.
How long should a chapter meeting be?
About an hour. Written officer reports and a strict two minutes per speaker keep it there.
