What's inside

By the end of this meeting, council has heard from every class, voted on its motions and agreed who carries out each decision. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Have the president and the advisor set the agenda together a few days before, and post it for members.
  2. 2Give class representatives real time to report what students are saying; it's the heart of the meeting.
  3. 3Practice simple motions: move, second, discuss, vote. Agendiq's summary records each result for the minutes.
  4. 4Collect new ideas anonymously at the end and turn the best into motions next time.
  5. 5The advisor coaches from the side; students chair, speak and vote.

Questions people ask

How do you run a student council meeting?
The president chairs from a written agenda: roll call, minutes, officer and class reports, old business, new business with motions and votes, and announcements. The advisor coaches but lets students lead.
What should student council meeting minutes include?
The date, who was present, reports given, each motion with who made and seconded it and the vote result, and tasks assigned. The summary from Agendiq gives you most of this automatically.
What are good student council ideas?
Ask students: spirit weeks, a lunch-time club fair, a suggestion box follow-up, a service drive or a mental health awareness week. Ideas from class reps tend to get the most support.
