H2S awareness

Hydrogen sulfide: what it is, how it hides, what to do

Title

In short

H2S training teaches workers that hydrogen sulfide is toxic, flammable, heavier than air and can deaden the sense of smell. This 13-slide talk covers the basics, your site's alarm set points and escape routes, and six alarm-response checks the crew answers on their phones, with answers explained.

Questions people ask

What should H2S safety training cover?
What hydrogen sulfide is, where it occurs, why smell isn't a reliable warning, how monitors and alarms work, escape routes and briefing areas, and why only trained people with supplied air attempt a rescue.
What do you do if an H2S alarm goes off?
Hold your breath, put on your escape respirator if you carry one, and move upwind or crosswind to a safe briefing area. Raise the alarm and never go back in without supplied air.
Is this talk an H2S certification?
No. It's an awareness and refresher talk. Use it alongside your formal H2S course and respirator training.
