Safety share

A short, true story. Something that happened, and what you do differently now.

Title

In short

A safety share is a short, true story about a near miss, a habit or a lesson, told at the start of a meeting. This pack gives you a four-step format, four story prompts people answer on their phones, and four one-minute safety minutes for days when nobody has a story.

How to run it

  1. 1Show the four-step safety share format first, so people know what a good share sounds like.
  2. 2Pick one story prompt. Give everyone a minute to answer on their phone, then invite one person to tell theirs aloud.
  3. 3On days nobody has a story, use one of the four safety minutes and read the notes.
  4. 4End with the comfort scale. If people don't feel safe sharing near misses, that's your next safety topic.

Questions people ask

What is a safety share?
A short personal story about safety, often a near miss or a habit, shared at the start of a meeting. It makes safety real by connecting it to something that happened to someone in the room.
What's the difference between a safety share and a safety minute?
A safety share is a personal story. A safety minute is a short prepared topic, such as exits or hand tools, that anyone can read out.
What are good safety share ideas?
Near misses, habits you picked up from someone else, a change you made after a close call, or a time someone stopped you. Home stories count too.
