How to run it

  1. 1Before the meeting, swap any month on the calendar for a hazard that's more real on your site.
  2. 2Open with the word cloud so the crew names today's hazards in their own words.
  3. 3Walk the calendar, then let the room vote on next month's topic.
  4. 4Run the five quick checks. Read the answer and the reason from the speaker notes after each vote.
  5. 5Close with the open question and add the top answer to next month's meeting.

Questions people ask

What are good safety topics for work?
Pick hazards your people really face this month: slips in winter, heat in summer, ladders, electrical cords, lifting, fire and emergency exits. Rotate through them so each comes back once a year.
How often should you hold safety meetings?
Many crews do a short talk daily or weekly and a longer meeting monthly. Construction sites often run weekly toolbox talks; OSHA doesn't set one frequency for every industry.
How do you make a safety meeting engaging?
Ask before you tell. A quick vote or word cloud gets everyone thinking, and talking through the answer beats reading a sheet aloud.
