Title

In short

PTA fundraiser ideas are events, sales and campaigns parent groups run to raise money for their school. This free pack lists 30 ideas in five groups, each rated for volunteer effort and return, plus an effort-return grid and phone votes, so PTA or PTO members choose the year's fundraisers together in one meeting.

The questions

  1. 1This year's fundraisers
  2. 2The best fundraiser is one our volunteers can actually run. Effort means volunteer hours; return means money raised for the time put in. Ratings are rules of thumb, not promises.

How to run it

  1. 1Run it at the first PTA or PTO meeting of the year, before the calendar fills up.
  2. 2Show the five idea slides quickly. The effort and return ratings are rules of thumb, so ask members who've run one to say how it went.
  3. 3Vote by category on phones, then use the final poll to pick how many fundraisers to run this year.
  4. 4Assign a chair for each winner before the meeting ends and record it in the meeting minutes.

Questions people ask

What are the best PTA fundraiser ideas?
It depends on your volunteers. A direct donation drive and employer matching gifts raise the most for the least effort; fun runs, auctions and golf tournaments raise a lot but need a strong committee.
Are PTO fundraiser ideas different from PTA ones?
No. PTAs belong to the National PTA and PTOs are independent, but both run the same kinds of fundraisers. Every idea here works for either.
How many fundraisers should a PTA run in a year?
Most parent groups do best with two to four. Fewer, well-run fundraisers keep volunteers and families from burning out.
