In short

What's inside

By the end of this meeting, the student has shown their learning, named a strength and a challenge, and set one goal their family and teacher will support. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Spend two or three class sessions preparing: choosing portfolio pieces, writing reflections and rehearsing with a partner.
  2. 2Give each student a printed or on-screen script that follows this agenda.
  3. 3During the conference, sit beside the student rather than at the head of the table, and let them lead.
  4. 4If you run several conferences at once, rotate between families and join each for the goal-setting part.
  5. 5Send the summary home with the goal and everyone's commitment.
