The agenda

By the end of this meeting, the team understands 5S, has scored its area on each S, made the red-tag decisions and agreed the standards and audit schedule.

How to run it

  1. 1Choose one area and one owner. 5S works best when you finish one area properly before starting the next.
  2. 2Take before photos from fixed spots so the after photos make the change obvious.
  3. 3Score each S on phones. The average is your baseline; post it in the area.
  4. 4Use the board to plan the work, and agree who decides on red-tagged items and by when.
  5. 5Send the audit checklist from the follow-up and run the same audit every month.

Questions people ask

What are the 5S steps?
Sort (seiri), Set in order (seiton), Shine (seiso), Standardize (seiketsu) and Sustain (shitsuke).
What should a 5S checklist include?
Lines for each S: only needed items in the area, a marked home for everything, clean equipment with problems reported, posted standards, and audits done on schedule with actions closed.
How often should you do a 5S audit?
Monthly is common once an area is launched, with quick weekly checks by the area owner. Use the same checklist each time so scores can be compared.
