In short

A post-observation conference is the coaching conversation after a teacher observation. The teacher reflects on the lesson, the observer shares evidence, and together they agree one next step. This 30-minute agenda keeps that order, adds prompts for reflection and ends with a follow-up visit booked and a written summary.

What's inside

By the end of this meeting, the teacher has reflected on the lesson, seen the evidence and chosen one next step with the support that comes with it. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Hold it within a few school days of the observation, while both of you remember the lesson.
  2. 2Bring your low-inference notes and the focus area agreed in the pre-observation conference. Leave the rating for later if your system allows it.
  3. 3Let the teacher talk first and longest. Your evidence should confirm or sharpen what they noticed, not replace it.
  4. 4Leave with one next step, not five. Book a short follow-up visit to see it in action.
  5. 5Send the summary afterwards so the teacher has the evidence and the next step in writing.

Questions people ask

What happens in a post-observation conference?
The teacher reflects on the lesson, the observer shares what they saw as evidence, both connect it to the agreed focus area, and they agree a next step and how it will be supported.
What is a pre-observation conference?
A short meeting before the observation where the teacher explains the lesson's goals and context and the two agree what the observer will focus on. The post-observation conference then stays on that focus.
How is a classroom walkthrough different from a formal observation?
A walkthrough is a short, frequent visit of a few minutes, often without a conference. A formal observation covers a whole lesson or a long segment and usually has a pre- and post-observation conference.
