What's inside

By the end of this meeting, the supervisee leaves with a clearer view of their case, any risk addressed, space to reflect and one development step. The full agenda is drawn to scale above: every block has its own timer when you run it live.

How to run it

  1. 1Agree a supervision contract first: frequency, confidentiality and its limits, record-keeping and what happens if there's a concern.
  2. 2Let the supervisee set the agenda and bring a question, not only a case.
  3. 3Cover all three functions over time: normative (standards and risk), formative (learning) and restorative (support).
  4. 4Never put client names or identifying details in the agenda; use initials or case numbers.
  5. 5Use the summary as the session record and for logging supervision hours.

Questions people ask

What are the three functions of clinical supervision?
In Brigid Proctor's model: normative (standards, ethics and risk), formative (learning and skills) and restorative (support for the practitioner's wellbeing).
What should be recorded in clinical supervision notes?
The date and length, the cases discussed by initials or case number, any risk or safeguarding issues and the agreed actions, and the development goals covered.
How often should clinical supervision happen?
It depends on your profession, role and licensing board. Many practitioners have an hour every two to four weeks; trainees and pre-licensure clinicians often need more.
