Slips, trips and falls

Good housekeeping is the cheapest safety there is

Title

In short

A slips, trips and falls toolbox talk focuses on housekeeping: keeping walkways, stairs and work areas clear, dry and lit. This free pack gives you the causes, an 8-point site walk checklist, a five-minute walk in pairs and phone polls that pick the worst hazard to fix before work starts.

  9. 9What kind of hazard was it?Cords or hoses · Debris or offcuts · Wet, muddy or icy · Holes or uneven ground · Poor lighting live
  10. 10A hose crosses the main walkway. What's the best fix?Put a cone next to it · Route it overhead or along the wall · Tell people to step over it · Tape it down with duct tape live
  11. 11How tidy is our site today? live
  12. 12What one fix should we make before work starts today? live
  13. 13Clean as you go

How to run it

  1. 1Give the talk where people walk: at the site entrance or the main stair, not in the cabin.
  2. 2Go through the site walk checklist, then send pairs to check one area each for 5 minutes.
  3. 3When they're back, run the poll on the worst hazard they found and fix the top answer before work starts.
  4. 4Repeat the walk weekly. Housekeeping slips as a job gets busy.
