How to run it

  1. 1Replace the PPE, emergency and assembly point slides with your site's real details, and use your actual site map.
  2. 2Hand out PPE during the session and have everyone fit and check it themselves.
  3. 3Run the knowledge check on phones, go through every answer, and retrain anyone on the questions the room got wrong.
  4. 4Have each new starter sign the record in the follow-up, and keep it with their training file.
  5. 5Follow up on the job: a supervisor walk-round in the first week catches what a classroom can't.

Questions people ask

What should a new hire safety orientation cover?
Worker rights and responsibilities, site rules and hazards, emergency procedures, first aid, PPE, chemical labels and safety data sheets, lockout/tagout awareness and how to report injuries, near misses and hazards.
What is a site induction?
The safety briefing every worker gets before starting on a site, covering its specific hazards, rules and emergency arrangements. In the UK, the CDM Regulations 2015 expect construction workers to receive a suitable site induction.
How do you check that new hires understood safety training?
Ask scenario questions, review every answer with the group, retrain on anything missed and record the sign-off. Then check again on the job in the first week.
