Site safety orientation

Before you start work on this site · 35 minutes

🦺
Title

In short

Construction safety training teaches workers to spot and control the hazards that cause most site injuries: falls, struck-by, caught-in or between, and electrocution. This 15-slide orientation deck covers those, plus ladders, PPE, emergencies and your site rules, with knowledge checks workers answer on their phones.

How to run it

  1. 1Fill in the site rules slide before you start: assembly point, first aid, sign-in, welfare and the site emergency number.
  2. 2The rules quoted are US OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926). Outside the US, check them against your local rules, such as HSE guidance in the UK.
  3. 3Let workers answer the knowledge checks on their phones, then explain each answer from the speaker notes.
  4. 4Collect hazards from the last slide and walk the site with the group to look for them.
  5. 5Keep your sign-in sheet as the training record, along with the session summary.

Questions people ask

What should construction safety training cover?
The Focus Four hazards (falls, struck-by, caught-in or between, electrocution), PPE, ladders and scaffolds, emergency procedures, how to report hazards, and the rules of the specific site.
At what height is fall protection required in construction?
Under US OSHA rules, at 6 feet or more above a lower level in construction. Other countries set their own rules; in the UK, the Work at Height Regulations apply at any height where a fall could cause injury.
How often should construction safety training happen?
At orientation for every new worker, whenever the work or hazards change, and in short weekly toolbox talks in between.
